show Abstracthide AbstractThe voltage-sensitive sodium channel (VSSC) is the target site for pyrethroids and DDT insecticides. Certain amino acid substitutions in the VSSC confer reduced sensitivity of the channel to those insecticides. This type of resistance is generally called knockdown resistance or simply 'kdr'. Several amino acid substitutions have been reported previously as responsible factors in numerous insect pests including disease transmitting vectors. The aim of this project is to sequence VGSC cDNA of pyrethroid-resistant asian-tiger mosquitoes (Aedes albopictus) and discover novel resistant associated mutations.
